This kind of reporting is exactly what Jalopnik needs to return to glory. That being said, I'd love to know what happened to the Raptor...

Definitely the kind of stories I’d love to see more of. Truly fascinating. I like when you get to see the investigative side of car journalism. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jalopnik’s silly opinion pieces, but high quality stuff like is awesome.

Raptor was an ASC/Saleen proposal. In late 2007 ASC was in bankruptcy and the owners of Saleen Inc decided to purchase ASC and merge the companies. The Raptor concept was a scale model. It was proposed for a continuation of the Ford GT chassis.
The original S5 was halted or canceled by the controlling interest of Saleen two years earlier. It too was a continuation of Ford GT architecture. When the original S5 was canceled, Steve Saleen & Phil Frank concentrated their energy on creating The Saleen Store in Irvine. A year after that, 2007, a number of Saleen engineers, Phil and Steve had left Saleen Inc.
Question is: How much of the original S5 proposal was recycled into the ASC/Saleen S5S Raptor?
Common folklore with regards to 2008 is: Increase spending, ASC executive perks and S5S Raptor concept cleaned ASC/Saleen out of money.
